Mission Road faceoff could get messy

Ald. Gian-Carlo Carra is on a mission that started on Mission Road, but it’s not about Mission Road.

Carra, who fancies himself an urban designer, says the way new developments are done in Calgary must be changed and it starts, apparently, with more public engagement.

Mission Road is badly in need of redevelopment, a fact recognized long ago by the group of owners whose properties front the road from Macleod Tr. on the east to 34 Ave. S.W. on the west.

The properties are primarily zoned for single-family homes, but the owners, united as a group (a great idea by the way), have applied for rezoning to allow for medium-density multi-family housing in 111 units, which will increase property values and make Mission Road an attractive gateway into downtown.
