- We must allow building to go out, in and up, always considering market demand.
- Innovation in financing of services e.g. roads, water, sanitary, emergency services, transit etc.

- In Sept 09, Council approved the Transportation Plan reaffirming the designation of Airport Trail as an Expressway including the tunnel which would allow future LRT to the terminal.

- They built the Airport Tunnel.

HOUSING
The number of dwellings both existing and under construction is 28,753.
The number of vacant dwelling units in Ward 3 is 755 in 2011. The overall vacancy rate in Ward 3 is 2.71%. A vacant dwelling is defined as a dwelling that is suitable and available for occupancy and does not include those dwellings under construction or renovation. 689 were under construction at time of study.
There are now 27,309 occupied dwellings. Of this number, 22,835 or 84% are owner-occupied.*

INCOME
Based on the 2006 Canadian Census, the Median Household Income (before Tax) in 2005 for Ward 3 was $73,763.
AGE AND GENDER
As per Census Policy, age and gender data was collected in 2011. The total number of males (45,262) slightly exceeds the number of females (44,600). In the breakdown of age groups, the largest age groups are 35-44 (17,660) and 25-34 (17,455). It is also interesting to note the number of children aged 5-14 (14,748).
EDUCATION
Based on the 2006 Canadian Census, the Ward 3 Population Aged 15 and Over by Highest Certificate, Diploma or Degree in 2006 was:
- 27.3% High School Certificate or equivalent
- 20.4% No Certificate, Diploma or Degree
- 19.6% University Certificate/Degree (BA and above)
NUMBER OF EMPLOYED
As per Census Policy, the number of employed was collected in 2011. The total number of respondents 15 years of age and older who indicated they worked either part-time or full-time, including those who are self employed is 46,428. This represents 69.46% of the population 15 years of age and older.
ETHNOCULTURAL
Based on the 2006 Canadian Census, the top 5 Ward 3 Recent Immigrant Populations by Country of Birth in 2006 were:
- 29.9% India
- 18.2% Pakistan
- 13.1% Philippines
- 7.1% Afghanistan
- 5.2% China
MODE OF TRANSPORTATION
One working respondent in each household was asked how they travelled to work. Results showed that the most common mode of transportation used was driving alone with 76.2% of working respondents indicating they drove to work alone.*
